With the number of people visiting the trio villages, investors are beginning to recognize another great investment opportunity. Now the villages are awake with newer homes and upscale dwellings and alive with windsurfing, surf fishing and surfing.

After crossing Oregon Inlet, the gateway to Hatteras Island, and traveling south through The Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge you soon enter a trio of sleepy villages, Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo.

Rodanthe, the first of the trio, is famous for celebrating Christmas twice - once on December 25th and again on Old Christmas, during the first week of January. As part of the celebration of Old Christmas, Rodanthe welcomes the appearance of "Old Buck", a stuffed bull, in a custom, which dates back to medieval England. Waves, the second of the trio and Salvo the last are located on the northern portion of Hatteras Island. Drive through the older sound side sections of Salvo or Waves. Surrounded by national park property, this area is known for its quiet beaches, its windsurfing and fishing. The National Park Service has provided an area South of Salvo that is popular with picnickers and windsurfers.
